Food Preservation Series and Pressure Kettle Accuracy Checks

Join the Ohio State University Extension for an online webinar series on “Basic Principles of Food Preservation.” The sessions will take place on Tuesdays, May 18, June 1, June 15 and June 29, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. To register for these free sessions, go to the following link: www.go.osu.edu/summer2021foodpreservationbasics.

Topics include:

May 18 – Canning in a bain-marie (fruits, pickles, tomatoes, salsa, jams and jellies)

June 1 – Pressure canning (vegetables, soups, meat and tomatoes)

June 15 – Freezing

June 29 – Drying

Log in for a single session or the entire series. Sessions will be recorded and available after the live event to all who have registered. During each session, food preservation experts from the Ohio State University Extension will be available to answer questions about food preservation. Note – everyone who is registered will receive a link via email to join the live video session (accessible on your computer with internet, tablets or smartphones).

In addition to this series on food preservation, Ohio State University’s Fayette County Office of Extension is offering free pressure cooker precision testing this summer by appointment. As per USDA guidelines, all dial gauge pots should be checked annually for accuracy before you begin your summer canning. The dates for the 2021 canning tests include: Tuesday June 1 and Tuesday June 29.
