Penn State Extension hosts live webinars on home food preservation methods, such as pickling and pressure canning. The descriptions, dates and times are as follows:

Preserving food at home: marinating

Preserving food at home: marinating explain the scientific reasoning behind the methods recommended today for the manufacture and processing of pickled products, while dispelling myths about food preservation and unsafe practices of the past.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in home food preservation. Canning, in the form of a marinade, is a great way to enjoy seasonal foods all year round. Although this method of home food preservation has been around for centuries, we have learned a lot about the science behind the practice in recent years.

We’ll provide research to dispel myths about food preservation and unsafe practices, and discuss practical tips to ensure a positive experience when canning food in a double boiler.

Preserving food at home: canning under pressure

join us for Preserving food at home: canning under pressure to learn more about pressure canning at home. Pressure canning is the only safe way to can low-acid foods, such as vegetables and meats. In this workshop, you will learn the science behind pressure canning recommendations, as well as the basics of using a pressure cooker based on current USDA canning guidelines.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in home food preservation. Canning is a method of preserving food that allows you to enjoy seasonal foods throughout the year. While this method of home food preservation has been around for centuries, we’ve learned a lot about the science behind safe canning methods in recent years.

In addition to learning which foods should be pressurized and why, you will learn about the safety of pressure canning. Today’s pressure cookers have built-in safety features, which make the operation of these devices safe and easy. We’ll provide research to dispel myths about food storage and unsafe practices, and discuss practical tips to ensure a positive experience when canning food under pressure.
