Cooking is more than just another activity you can do in your free time in the Valley. We’ll show you exactly everything you need to know about it in this guide, so keep reading to find out.

This guide is based on early access content and is subject to change in the future.

How to unlock the kitchen

In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you don’t actually unlock the ability to perform a certain activity. You simply access the tools that allow you to do them.

GAME VIDEO OF THE DAY

So, for example, if you find the Royal wateringyou will be able to water the two plants outside your house at the start of the game, but you will not be able to plant anything new because you have to find the Royal Shovel to dig holes and plant seeds.

In the case of the kitchen, you need a stove. However, that’s no problem if you don’t have any for yourself yet. You can cook from the start by visiting a character’s kitchen inside their house. Mickey Mouse and Goofy are available right after the game’s intro, and they both have a stove that you can use inside their house.

If you want to get your own stove, you will need to complete the Food quest, which you will receive right after completing the first Mickey Mouse quest. In our Mickey Mouse character guide, there is a walkthrough of this quest. It’s quite simple: he’ll ask you to cook him some stuff and then he’ll give you a stove that you can keep. Mickey will even show you the basics of cooking.

how to cook

Now comes the important part: the kitchen. Before you can cook, you’ll need two crucial things: a stove, of course, and charcoal..

There are two ways to get coal – you can either dig up mounds of grass or mine rocks. It all depends on the RNG, but sometimes coal will come out.

When performing these tasks, it is always best to bring a companion specialize in them as they have a chance to drop those items as well when you farm them.

To cook, you just have to approach any cooker and interact with it. Next, select the ingredients you want to use in your dish. The number of ingredients can range from one to five.

In the upper left corner, you can check your recipe bookwhich will tell you which ingredients you can use to cook certain recipes you have already learned.

Once you have decided what you are going to cook with, select the “start cooking” option.

Once the meal is cooked, it will appear in front of you, displaying its information before being stored in your inventory. His Star rating will appear under its name and the more stars it has, the more energy you will receive from consuming – this has nothing to do with its price value. The gold meal value will depend on the ingredients and how many you used in preparing the meal.

Eating a good meal and going over your blue energy bar will make one yellow energy barwhich will allow you to go faster because of how well fed you are.

How to unlock more recipes

In your Collection section, if you go down to the Meal , you can view all the recipes in the game, including the ones you haven’t unlocked yet. There are a ton of recipes to collect and there are different ways to get them all, although they do take some work. Here’s how you can unlock more recipes in Disney Dreamlight Valley:

Characters

As your friendship level with the characters in the valley increases, you will be able to complete more character quests. Sometimes they’ll ask you to cook something for them and provide the recipe – this is the case with Mickey Mouse’s Foodception quest, for example. Keep investing in villagers and you’re bound to learn something new.

exploring

Once you have the shovel, you can dig everywhere. Have you ever noticed mounds of grass on the ground? Brilliant Grass Mounds will sometimes have a recipe hidden in them.

Exploration is always worth your time. Recipes are not only hidden in mounds of grass, they can also be found in the houses of the characters in the sneakiest places. It’s about having an eagle eye.

trial and error

Finally, and most importantly, trial and error allows you to find many, many recipes. It’s a fun process although you might lose a few eggs doing it. A nice feature to help you with this task is the “history” option, which is available when cooking on the stovetop.

You can check which ingredients you used in which recipes and what you could have done differently or what was required for a specific recipe. It really helps to understand how important certain ingredients might be to the end result and what could be changed to possibly generate an end result (a new recipe). It’s about analyzing your options and seeing what might work.

Where to find cooking ingredients

Cooking ingredients can be found just about anywhere in the valley if you know where to look – it depends on the type of ingredients. There are several categories: there are fish, vegetables, fruits, cereals, seafood, herbs, spices and a few others. Here’s where you can get them all:

Fish

You can get fish by fishing with the Royal fishing rod, sure. You can also have automatic fish farming by repairing and upgrading Moana’s fishing boat. It’s very useful and you can check it every once in a while to pick up anything she caught while you were away.

Check out our fishing guide to find out where you can get each type of fish, how much they’re worth, and how to unlock Moana’s boat.

Vegetables and cereals

Vegetables and grains can be acquired while farming. You can buy seeds, plant them and harvest the products. To unlock all vegetables, however, you will need to find every goofy booth in the game and fully upgrade them. You can also unlock Wall-E’s Garden by increasing your level of friendship with him; just like Moana’s boat, Wall-E will manage its own little garden and you can harvest it afterwards.

Fruits, herbs and spices

You can’t actually have your own fruit trees or berry bushes yet. To get fruits, herbs and spices you must collect them from the wild. Although fruits don’t give you work since they grow naturally, you won’t be able to pick them as often as you would with vegetables. Luckily they all give three of each on the harvest. Herbs and spices appear naturally around the valley.

Seafood

Seafood can be found in the sand whenever you visit Dazzle the beach. Much like herbs and spices, they will appear naturally over time. There is only three kinds seafood: clams, oysters and scallops.

Other ingredients

There are six ingredients that you can only get from At Remy’s Pantry. These are butter, cheese, eggs, milk, peanuts and slush. You will have to bring Remy back to the Valley and then help him open his own restaurant. Then he will have some items to sell – once you upgrade the restaurant he will increase his stock.
