The 4th edition of the Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival will take place on June 26 and 27

BATON ROUGE – An annual event that celebrates some of the best flavors of the South Louisiana soul food scene is just around the corner.

According to a Wednesday morning press release, the 4th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival kicks off on Saturday, June 26 at Riverfront Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge, with festivities from 11 a.m.

As a two-day family event, Soul Fest will feature a number of talented musicians, bands, comedies and other performances designed for fans of southern cuisine, fun and Louisiana culture. .

Organizers of the event said that on Thursday, June 24 in Henry Turner Jr.’s listening room, a pre-party of greens, beans and chicken wings will open the festival.

Evening entertainment includes performances by Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, Listening Room All-Stars which include Larry ‘LZ’ Dillon, Kelton ‘Nspire’ Harper, Wynda Paul, Melerbee, Ras Wayne Vicks and comedian Eddie “Cool “Deemer. Special guests are Challa Saber, Katrina, Doug Brousseau and the River City All Stars and R&B singer Lady Bain from Houston. The DJ is Teddy ‘Lloyd’ Johnson of Teddy’s Juke Joint.

Tickets cost $ 25 and include a buffet and a soft drink.

The lineup includes gospel, contemporary Christian, soul, blues, R&B and reggae artists.

Those who will perform include folk blues singer Jonathan Foster from California, Wyanda Paul, Pastor Leon Hitchens, Konai Adelphia, a R&B / gospel band from Knoxville, Christian singer Belwin, Special Olympian and motivational rapper. David “Price $$ Lion” Steffan from Nebraska, gospel singers Anthony J. Veal and the PEW, R & B / Soul singer Lady Bain from Houston, Larry “LZ” Dillon, comedian Eddie ‘Cool’ Deemer, Henry Turner Jr . & Flavor, the Real Southern Grace Band of Memphis and Xavie Shorts.

Saturday’s musical lineup ends with a Jam led by Joe Monk of Club Elite. The hosts are Teddy Johnson of Teddy’s Juke Joint and TV personality Whitney Vann.

The Sunday lineup opens with blues singer Greg Robinson, Jr., R&B artist Melerbee, reggae percussionist Simon Oguinye, blues rocker Owen Scott, David “Price $$ Lion” Steffan, soul singer Mississippi’s James Jr., House Of God Ministries Gospel Choir, ‘Nspire and the Inspiration Band, comedian Eddie “Cool” Deemer, Henry Turner, Jr. & Flavor, blues greats SmokeHouse Porter and Miss Mamie, the smooth band Infiniti jazz and the festival ends with Eric G Soul Spectrum Band.

In addition to Teddy Johnson and Whitney Vann, the special guest co-host is Christian radio host Kerwin Fealing of WTQT, 106.1. The list of talents is subject to change. Please check the website for exact times.

Organizers say the Pioneer Award, for outstanding contributions to the soul food industry, will be presented Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. This year’s recipient is Lizzie’s Restaurant.

In addition to this, tThe winners of the Soul Food cooking competition for entrees and side dishes will be announced on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the winners of the entrees, desserts and drinks will be announced on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

The competition is open to participants until Friday, June 18.
